Department of Biotechnology, BMSCE was established in 2002. The Department offers Bachelor of Engineering, with an intake capacity of 40. Our vision is to become Centre of excellence in the field of biotechnology and impart quality education to the graduates that deliver biotechnological solutions for the welfare of mankind. The department is committed to produce top class engineering professionals through academic excellence and endeavors to bring out the true talent of the student in the form of creative ideas, designs and projects. In an effort to achieve this, in addition to regular teaching of the syllabus, the department conducts extension lectures by the experts, hands on training programs on advanced techniques conferences and industrial visits on regular basis. The department has well experienced, qualified and committed faculty who maintain interactive rapport with students. The department also encourages the students to take up industrial training in the area of their interest during the inter semester holidays. To improve both oral and written the communicative skills, language lab is available as central facility. Apart from the above, the communicative skills and lifelong learning capacities are boosted in the form of class room presentations, open-ended experiments, industry involvement in teaching theory and conduction of practical.

In the present day competitive world, mere examination oriented study is not going to help the student in the long run. As biotech field offers innumerable opportunities for self- employment and entrepreneurship, The students are advised to be abreast of the advances in the field and are advised to learn C, C++ and data structures in the end of first year, JAVA/BioJAVA/ Bio PERL in the end of second year and Industrial training in the semester gap at the end of third year, besides at least one foreign language.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)
PEO1: Graduates will be successful professionals in Biotechnology and allied fields with proficiency of working in a multidisciplinary team.
PEO2: Graduates will pursue higher education with synergistic combination of the skills of biologists & engineers.
PEO3: Graduates will inculcate ethical and social values for the well-being of mankind and environment.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)
1. Apply knowledge of basic sciences and biotechnological techniques to manipulate living organisms.
2. Design, optimize, analyse and scale up a bioprocess to develop value added products.
3. Generate, analyse and interpret Biological data using Insilco approaches.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs) 
PO 1 Graduates will apply knowledge of Mathematics, Science and Engineering concepts to solve problems pertinent to Biotechnology. 
PO 2 Graduates will be able to identify problems related to biotechnology, analyse and derive valid conclusions with fundamental knowledge in biology, Engineering and computation. 
PO 3 Graduates will be able to design solution to problems by applying suitable components and processes within the safety constraints for environmental & societal needs. 
PO 4 Graduates will be able to design, conduct experiments, analyse and interpret data for investigating problems in BT and allied fields. 
PO 5 Graduates will be able to select and apply appropriate tools and techniques in biological manipulation, process engineering and data interpretation. 
PO 6 Graduates will be able to apply reasoning to assess societal, health, safety and legal issues and understand his responsibilities in biotechnological engineering practices. 
PO 7 Graduates will be able to understand the potentials, and impact of biotechnological solutions on environment and societal context and need for sustainable solution.
