Student Chapter : AIChE Student Chapter
The objective of Five day Training on ‘Safety and Health Issues in Industrial Environment’ conducted in April was to create awareness on the Safety and Health aspects in Industrial Environment. The training program was jointly organized with the Department of Factories, Boilers, Health and Industrial Safety, Govt. of Karnataka and The Dept. of Chemical Engineering, BMSCE, Bangalore. The workshop was well attended with participants from the industry and academia. There were interactive sessions with industrial safety experts, safety consultants and experts from educational institutions.
The main highlight of the program was the Mock Fire Safety Drill by Fire and Emergency Services Department, Govt. of Karnataka which gave the participants practical information about the different types of fires extinguishers available, novel mechanizations used to douse fire and their usage in emergencies.
The training program concluded with an Industrial visit to M/s Bosch, BanP, Audugodi, Bangalore where a demonstration of the Safety & Health Strategy and Practices were made. Our department releases an Annual Technical Newsletter ‘Chemical Potential’ during Confluence. The specialty of this newsletter is that it is entirely an initiative of our students right through Soliciting Sponsorships, Editing, Authoring Articles and Designing the issue. This is a clear showcase of the multi-tasking and multi-faceted abilities of our enterprising students. This year too the Chemical Potential was released by Dr. G N Sekhar, The Vice Principal, BMSCE on the day of Confluence ’13. The theme of the newsletter in 2013 was the potential of Nuclear Power as an Alternative Fuel in power generation.
